I’ve been thinking about purple a lot

I’m still on the topic of Baby Jane colour schemes, but I’m a lot closer to a decision!! I had some REALLY helpful comments on my last post and there were several points which made me stop and think:

  • Purple, as the complement of yellow, is worth considering and comes in lots of different shades
  • A yellow quilt in a yellow room would be yellow overload (a very good point)
  • I could pick fabrics which aren’t yellow, but have some yellow in them

So, I’ve been pondering a lot, and finally decided on a dark purple/light purple diamond layout like this:

I was round at my parent’s house the other day and it was funny – I could just see the quilt in that room, which is odd because I’m usually rubbish at that kind of visualisation. So I suggested purple to my Mum and… she didn’t like it. AAARGH!!! No pink and now no purple! Apparently green and blue are good though…

Time to go think about blue or green!

That’s too bad! Purple would’ve looked so pretty in a yellow room.

Colour has emotion. Your mum reacted to her generations idea of purple. My mum as well and maybe me until I began to really think about colour. I did make 3 quilts before I gave up and just made my mum what she wanted. But I now have 2 definites for making quilts for others. You can input colour or pattern, not both because I need to like what I’m doing. And then probably, no peeks till it is a reasonable facscimilie. But take a deep breath and a cuppa, you’ll get it figured out fine.

Thanks Elle. You’re point about being able to have input on EITHER colour or patten is something I hadn’t considered and very valid. You’ve definitely given me something to think about šŸ™‚

I love using purple. I like using it with red or green and even some shades of orange. In fact, I have to make myself look at other colors because I consider purple first.

The purple would be great. I would just want to make sure you don’t get tired of the colour combo on this project. It is a BIG project and you need it to hold your interest.
Love the idea of red and purple together…

Good point! You’re voicing what I’d started to think – that the massiveness of this project means that I have to really love the entire project i.e. pattern AND colour. Time for some more thinking!
