Cars and Ponies quilt: Top done

I’ve finished the top for the Cars and Ponies quilt and it’s just too cute!

Now I know what I want to do with the quilting (only being able to do straight lines really narrows the options!) and the back is going to be more of the cars fabric, but I’m pretty stuck as to what to do for the binding. I’d originally planned to use the red horseshoe fabric, because I really like it and the print is a good size for binding, but then it wouldn’t show up against the top edge of the quilt. Is that bad? Should the binding contrast with the fabric it’s against? I dunno! Any ideas would be gratefully received πŸ™‚

It is pretty cute! With 4 sides different you will ‘lose’ something whatever you choose. Green would be the only one you maybe wouldn’t . My first thought was blue to get a bit on the right but you could probably do whatever you like and it’ll work.

I think the horseshoes will be great! I really like the idea of something red around the edge, I think it’ll be the perfect finishing touch

Congratulations Kate πŸ˜€ I love the quilt, it’s so bright and happy. I wish I could offer help with the binding but seeing as I havn’t done my first quilt yet I wouldn’t know what to say hehe.

What about doing each side a different, contrasting colour? I attach my bindings one side at a time (tutorial on the blog) so this would be easy to do.

I also like the green suggestion. It would be a good frame to it all.

    Thanks for the ideas guys!

I liked the green idea but when I tried it out it didn’t look quite right. In the end I went and bought a white fabric with red, green and blue splodges on it. Fingers crossed this’ll look good πŸ™‚
